CULINARY

Arriving in New Orleans

To help pay for school, Ryan began working as a bartender at Rizzuto’s in Lakeview. Wanting to be closer to the heart of New Orleans, he eventually settled in the Lower Garden District and transitioned to Houston’s on St. Charles Avenue.

On his days off, Ryan immersed himself in New Orleans’ remarkable food scene. After nearly a decade working on the front-of-house side of the service industry, experiencing restaurants from the guest’s perspective while building a career behind the bar, he found himself inspired to pursue culinary school and explore the other side of hospitality.

Working at taco bell at 16

Ryan began what would become a long journey through the food industry. His first steps took him to a local delicatessen, where he worked through high school and began building a foundation in hospitality.

After moving to Kansas, he continued exploring different corners of the industry, working at a taco shop, a ramen restaurant, and eventually an American steakhouse. Each experience brought new front-of-house responsibilities and a different perspective on hospitality.

Through these roles, Ryan was exposed to different cultures, cuisines, and clientele. He learned how to adapt his approach to different guests, understand what makes each dining experience unique, and appreciate the many traditions and principles that shape the world of food.

Becoming a chef

While attending culinary school, Ryan had the opportunity to be mentored by renowned New Orleans chef Susan Spicer at her restaurant, Rosedale, in Mid-City. Under her guidance, he learned how to move with efficiency and purpose in a professional kitchen while developing his own sense of culinary character and creativity.

After graduating, Ryan continued his culinary career under Ralph Brennan at Brennan’s on Royal Street. Working in its intense, high-paced kitchen, he found himself surrounded by talented individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures, each bringing their own experiences and perspectives to the craft.

His career appeared to be gaining momentum rapidly until a car accident in June left him with a broken right hand. Suddenly unable to grip a knife, Ryan was forced to step away from the kitchen and take a hiatus while he recovered.

That unexpected setback became another turning point in his journey—one that would ultimately lead him beyond the kitchen and into the broader world of hospitality.

Hotels & sales

From Kitchens to Hotels

After breaking his hand, Ryan found himself at a crossroads. Cooking had been a major part of his life, but the injury gave him an unexpected opportunity to step back and consider where he wanted his career to go next. He decided to take what he had learned in the kitchen and bring it into a different side of hospitality: hotels.

That transition brought him to the Royal Frenchmen Hotel in New Orleans, an iconic property nestled on Frenchmen Street, surrounded by the city's legendary jazz clubs, music venues, and unmistakable energy. As Front Desk Manager, Ryan was introduced to the many moving parts behind a boutique hotel and quickly learned that hospitality extended far beyond the guest experience.

He became involved in the day-to-day operation of the property, from managing the front desk and supporting guests to coordinating with different departments and handling the challenges that come with running a boutique hotel. It was his first opportunity to see hospitality from an operational perspective and gave him a foundation that would continue to shape his career.

What started as a change in direction after an injury ultimately became the beginning of Ryan's career in hotel and hospitality management.

into luxury sales

After the Royal Frenchmen, Ryan continued expanding his experience in hospitality, joining the Marriott as a Sales Coordinator at one of the city’s larger hotel properties. Moving from the intimate world of boutique hotels into a large-scale operation gave him a new perspective on the complexity and coordination required to serve guests at scale.

During his time with Marriott, an opportunity arose to experience a completely different market. Ryan traveled to Dallas and ultimately decided to take his career in a new direction, stepping outside of traditional hospitality and into luxury motorcycle sales. He later took on a leadership role with Harley-Davidson, overseeing the Riding Academy and guiding customers through the process of becoming licensed riders and Harley-Davidson owners.

Although the motorcycle industry was a departure from his culinary and hotel background, the experience allowed Ryan to continue developing the skills that have defined his career: sales, customer experience, operations, leadership, and an ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

taking it to new york

Now, Ryan is bringing everything he has learned to New York City, the greatest city in the world. With a career shaped by kitchens, restaurants, boutique hotels, large scale hotel operations, and luxury sales, he brings a perspective built on experience, adaptability, and a deep understanding of hospitality. New York is not the destination. It is the stage for what comes next.
