"Friday morning" Original play

Jayhawk Performance Lab - April 2022

Written and Directed by: Ryan Spirit

Assistant Director: Carter Cashdollar

Performance: Jessica Myrick, Will Morris, PJ Monsour, and Jim Dick.

This piece speaks to the modern day USA by discussing themes of family relationship, American consumerism, and capitalist ideals all whilst being set in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic. Inspired by Warhol and Lichtenstein, the piece is meant to inspire contemplation about the simple, everyday items that we perhaps overlook.

"Project #3" Short film

On Assignment - March 2021

Concept & Direction: Ryan Spirit

Performance: Jessica Myrick, Alec Basgal, and PJ Monsour.

Short film, a depiction of the future. 10 years from now, in the year 2031, We The People, have achieved the equity we have been striving for. However, with this comes the loss of individuality. Many symbolic gestures and movements are suggested to be rewatched for careful analysis and interpretation.

"YOUR WAY IS OURS" Short Film

On Assignment - February 2021

Concept & Direction: Ryan Spirit

Performance: Annika Wallace & Rodney Alexander

Short film without dialogue that offers artistic representations of inequality within American consumerism. With reference to the giant fast-food chain's famous slogan "Have it Your Way" paired with distorted sounds, privilege based on race becomes more apparent. What is a meal your way if you don't have another option?

"Symbolic Perspective and The Primary Colors"

On Assignment - November 2020

Concept & Direction: Ryan Spirit

Performance & Choreography: Jessica Myrick

Inspired by the iconic, American pop-artist, Andy Warhol and his concepts of symbolization. What would he make us realize if he were still alive? Three simple objects an American of 2020 overlooks almost every day: a red Coca-Cola can, a yellow banana, and a blue disposable mask.
